Summary
As a Filipino SEA delegate in the SEA Teacher Program, my experience in Bengkulu, Indonesia, was both transformative and enriching. Hosted by the University of Bengkulu, I was warmly welcomed into a new cultural and educational environment that broadened my perspectives as a pre-service teacher. The program allowed me to immerse myself in the rich culture of Indonesia while building connections with fellow educators and students, fostering both professional and personal growth. The support and guidance provided by the university staff and mentors were instrumental in helping me navigate the challenges of teaching in a foreign setting.
At SMA Negeri 5 Kota Bengkulu, where I completed my practicum, I had the privilege of teaching English to senior high school students. Their eagerness to learn and engage in class activities made the experience both rewarding and inspiring. By adapting to the Merdeka Curriculum and incorporating student-centered approaches, I was able to apply innovative teaching strategies while learning about Indonesia's unique educational system. The interactions I had with the students and faculty deepened my appreciation for cultural exchange and strengthened my ability to teach in diverse classrooms.
This experience not only enhanced my teaching skills but also shaped my outlook as a global educator. It taught me the importance of adaptability, cultural sensitivity, and the value of fostering meaningful relationships in education. As I return home, I carry with me cherished memories, new friendships, and a deeper commitment to creating impactful learning experiences. Being part of the SEA Teacher Program has been a milestone in my journey as an aspiring teacher, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity to grow both professionally and personally.
